Ski ClubStudents in Grades 3 through 8 are invited to join the SBS Ski Club. This very popular club meets after school on Wednesday for the first 5 weeks of the new year. Students and chaperones travel to Ski Sundown for an evening of skiing or snow boarding. Lessons are available for all levels of expertise. The cost involves lift tickets and transportation to and from the ski area. Equipment rental and lessons are an optional package.
Eighth grade officers as President, Vice President, Secretary, and
Treasurer lead the student council after an annual schoolwide election.
In addition to the officers, representatives from grades 2 through
8 are elected to represent their grade level. Their individual classes
elect these representatives and alternates. The students must maintain
a “C” average in all classes at all times. This organization affords
the students the opportunity to learn leadership skills, including
decision-making. Some of our graduates have gone on to serve in public
office as mayor, town council representatives and state representatives.
With the help of teacher moderators, the student council plans and
organizes schoolwide service projects and social events, such as a
Red Cross Blood Drive, community service, SBS Halloween Social for grades 3-5 and dances for grades 6-8. Some examples
of their hard work are: Thanksgiving food drives for the needy, holiday
cards to the elderly, and remembering families who have suffered tradgedy or loss.
