  c.   the experience a student might have at the school.

  • All materials concerning Saint Brigid’s policies and mission are clearly stated and accessible to
  •  parents.
  • When my son needed to be tested for difficulties in learning, the teacher and principal provided excellent help.
  • Inviting atmosphere.
  • Students need to STOP taking other students belongings home and their parents do not return it back to school.
  • Regular curriculum last year; it was not provided.
  • We have been in this school for seven years now and things have gotten better.
  • All staff is well informed regarding all the above.
  • I don’t remember health and safety policies being mentioned in open houses and/or orientations unless a question came up.
2. The school supplied sufficient information between initial application acceptance and the beginning of the first year of school.

  • New to Saint Brigid School.
  • Teacher was very helpful in accommodating me early in the morning.  Can some conferences be held in the late/early evening – 5/6PM?
  • Home and School communication is a priority with Saint Brigid’s and parents are made to feel included in all aspects of child’s education.
  • Obvious open door policy with all faculty and staff.
  • Communication between teachers and parents can be more effective with the use of class web sites and email.  I.e. Miss Bond’s class web site.
  • School secretaries and teachers are doing a great job.
  • Conferences are arranged only when needed. The only parent/teacher conference is held in November.
  • More advance communication of events would be helpful for planning.
  • Except for November, I have had to schedule a conference, but this was done with ease.
  • Progress reports need more detail – specific written comments from teachers are preferable to a series of check marks on a sheet.
  • Wish progress reports came out more often.
  • I think it would be very useful to have a conference in March.  At this time parents still have time to get their child back on track if necessary.
  • I do not find the progress reports to be helpful.  They only indicate whether your child is passing or failing.  That is something that both child and parent are fully aware of.  It would be much more helpful if the progress report indicated the student’s grade so that their progress is clear to the parent and the child.  As one o the teacher said during open house, “If your child is failing you will immediately be advised of such before you receive a progress report.”  Accordingly, I do not find the present progress reports to be of any help in assessing my hold’s progress.
  • The only “regular” conference that is arranged between parents and teachers is in November to receive the first report card.  After that time, there are no further conferences unless requested by the parent or teacher.  I believe that a mid-year conference would also be helpful.
4.   Communications related to financial obligations are clear:

  a.   Policies and procedures related to tuition, billing,
etc. were made clear prior to enrollment.
91.9
1.2
6.9
  b.      There is a contract between parents and school
covering financial obligations.
94.1

  • Contract is clearly presented with any questions addressed in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • When my son took it upon himself to inform the school of some financial difficulties, the school helped.
  • Front office is fantastic!
  • Val, huge improvement here!
  • It was very easy to set up a monthly account.
5.   The school works to encourage parental involvement
in public relations and student recruitment
:

15.1
  • Faculty, parents and students reach out in a warm and friendly manner to prospective families, as I experienced during the Open House mid year.
  • Always!
  • Thank you Steve Moran!
  • I don’t think this was done well in the past, but I have seen progress – new principal has contributed to this improvement.  We definitely need better PR. School events should be covered by a volunteer photographer and those pictures should be on the web site.
  • I’m not aware of these activities.  What method is used to request parental involvement.  Does this method target all parents?
6.   The Home and School Associations encourages all
parents to participate in necessary fundraising
as well as school programs and activities:

91.9
2.2_
5.9_
  • Disagree with any fundraiser's for preK3 and 4 year olds.
  • Should be required or financial penalty.
  • Parents are encouraged and made to feel as if they are part of the mission of Saint Brigid School.
  • Need core of volunteers – pool from classes – maybe 3-5 parents per class to help out on activities.
  • Great support when involved in projects.
  • It’s the same parents that help out all the time.  Compile a group of parents to be called upon to help out on school activities.
  • This should be better enforced for all.
  • Still hoping we can encourage more families of color to take leadership positions in activities, HSA, school board, etc.  How do we accomplish this?  Let’s keep trying.
7. The school takes pride in students of different
backgrounds and different learning styles.
84.9
2.3
12.8
8. The school differentiates student’s different learning
styles and offers appropriate means of success:

59.3
7.0
33.7
  • The teacher are always willing to set up time with any student who is having questions on the material covered.
  • More specialized help involving students who have learning difficulties could be available.
  • Mrs. Mara and your staff are all doing an awesome, wonderful job.
  • When “Hail Mary” was done in all languages.
  • SBS really has to look at hiring a learning assistant teacher separate from the regular teaching staff.
  • With large classes it’s difficult to get individualized attention.
  • Until 6th grade, an accelerated student gets bored in class while slower students set the pace for learning.
  • I am not aware of efforts to meet different learning styles; however it appears that most students are successful.  Can a presentation regarding learning styles be scheduled for parents?
  • I am not aware of how the differences in learning styles are handled by St. Brigid School.
  • Small group instruction in reading and math is one example of Saint Brigid’s commitment to ensuring each child masters basic skills in the lower grades.
  • Excellent in this area!

Recommendations:

  • So far so good.  (Son) loves school and his teachers.
  • My opinion is the school is doing everything accordingly to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment for our children.
  • None.  I am very satisfied with St. Brigid and the education my child is provided with!
  • More extra-curricular activities in the sport department should be integrated.
  • School website would be a good resource for families.  The case information is missed.  Great for advertising the good work in the school.
  • Overall we are very happy with St. Brigid School.
  • Over the years (1997 – present), I have been pleased with the staff at St. Brigid School.  My only disappointment is that the staff culturally as well as gender is not reflective of the entire student body.  Role leaders are a very important aspect of every child’s growth and development.
  • Awards for attendance by class or student.  Student of the month.
  • Newsletter/written communication should be shared with all parents regarding HSA meetings – not necessarily minutes, but some summary document should be available for parents who are unable to attend HSA meetings.
  • An after school homework club would be helpful.
  • I  think the school does a great job of communicating in regard to the child, parent involvement and expectations for parent, child, and school support and involvement.
  • At SBS, we are very proud and blessed to have you and your staff with our children.  We love you all very much.  GOD BLESS!!!
