From the Desk of Dr. Susan W. O'Brien
Dear Parents/Guardians of St. Brigid Students,
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write you this "Summer Note" of welcome back to school. I look forward with joy to meeting your precious children and to becoming a part of the St. Brigid School Community of Faith and good fellowship. I have already met several students and their parents and am impressed with the positive attitudes and fine manners of the children. The parent welcome has been warm and sincere. After almost forty years as a public school educator, I am both amazed and delighted to serve our Lord and your children in our beautiful school, surrounded by our Roman Catholic values and ethics.
I have met several faculty and staff this summer, since my first day on Monday, August 3rd. On Tuesday, August 11th, faculty and staff hosted a lovely welcome dessert buffet in my honor. Very nice indeed! Our faculty and staff are extremely dedicated and competent educators. Their sincere caring for the children is truly amazing and an inspiration to me as their leader. Monsignor Clancy has been totally supportive; it is such a pleasure to work with and for him in this sacred endeavor of educating our children...Mind, Heart, and Spirit.
And now a few bits of business to share... Our first day of school (grades K-8) is Monday, August 31st. It will be an early dismissal day at 11:45 am. There will be no Aftercare that day. Aftercare will begin on Tuesday, September 1st which will be a full day of school for all grades. Friday, September 4th will also be an Early Dismissal day at 11:45 am and Aftercare will be available for registered students. Please have your children/child bring a lunch if they will be attending our Aftercare program on September 4th. We will follow the West Hartford Public Schools calendar and will observe Snow Days and Delayed Openings/Early Closings due to inclement weather according to their determinations. I respectfully request that you read all the important documents in this packet and familarize your children/child with our St. Brigid School expectations.
On Friday, September 11th, we will celebrate the start of our school year, 2009-2010, with our School Picnic. I look forward to meeting you at that wonderful gathering and to seeing you throughout the year at our St. Brigid School activities.
I trust you have had an enjoyable summer...rain and all! I happily anticipate many years of service together, guided by the Holy Spirit and our caring and understanding for each other. A new chapter in the proud history of St. Brigid School is now opening. Enjoy the remainder of summer. I look forward to welcoming our children on August 31st and September 1st.
May the Saints preserve us,
Dr. Susan W. O'Brien, Principal
